No — most inflatable water slides have a built-in splash pool or soft landing zone at the bottom. You just need a standard garden hose connected to the slide. No pool required.

Water slides use a continuous flow from a garden hose, similar to running a sprinkler. Usage is typically 50–100 gallons per hour depending on the slide size. Most households can run them without any issues.

Some water slides can be used dry, but the experience isn't as smooth or fun. The water acts as a lubricant — without it, kids may get friction burns. If you want a dry slide, consider a bounce and slide combo instead.

Most water slides are designed for kids ages 5 and up. Smaller water slides work for ages 3+. Very tall slides (18 feet+) are typically recommended for ages 8+ or teens. Check each listing for the manufacturer's age recommendation.

Grass is ideal — it's soft and allows for staking. Some water slides can also go on concrete or asphalt with sandbag anchoring, but a splash mat or tarp is recommended to protect the bottom of the unit.

Water collects in the splash pool and eventually overflows onto the surrounding grass. For driveways, the water will drain naturally. Place the slide where runoff won't cause issues (away from foundations and gardens).
